One person is dead following a house fire in Pretty Prairie.
It happened around 2:40 a.m. Tuesday at 9 E Horseshoe lane. When firefighters arrived, they found a a single story, double-wide home burning.
A 21-year-old woman had escaped the home with her 1 and 2-year-old children. The woman told Reno County Deputies that she was unable to reach her 70-year-old grandmother, identified as Judy Kay Alley.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control. Inside the home, they found a body that has not been formally identified.
Deputies say the woman was airlifted by EagleMed Helicopter to Via Christi-St. Francis, while her two children were transported to St. Francis by Reno County EMS. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the state Fire Marshal’s Office.
