Nationwide emergency alert test happening today

A nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System is happening today.

This is set for 1:20 p.m. Wichita time, and will include warnings on radio and TV stations. Part of this test is to make sure emergency alerts can go out if there were a large scale internet outage. Because of this, phones will not be getting alerts as part of today’s test.

When the test starts, alert tones will be played over radio and TV stations, followed by a message that this is a test. This should only last for 60 seconds.

The FCC and FEMA are working together on this test in an effort to make sure emergency messages can be sent across the country.
