The third annual Open Streets ICT event will be held in Wichita on Sunday, September 22nd from noon to 5 p.m.
The date for the event was announced Thursday during mayor Jeff Longwell’s weekly news conference at city hall. Longwell said around 20,000 people attended last year’s event, which will have Douglas closed to vehicle traffic from Delano to College Hill.
The city’s superintendent of recreation, Reggie Davidson, said over 150 vendors have signed up for the event and the deadline to register is August 30th. He said Douglas will be open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic, but because of safety concerns electric scooters will not be allowed. Davidson said the city is working with vendors to set up “geofencing” that will prevent the scooters from operating on Douglas.
The city will have five Q-Line trolleys operating on 1st and 2nd Streets between Oliver and McLean, and people can catch the trolleys at intersections along the route.
Mayor Longwell said volunteers are needed for the event, and people can sign up by calling Sarah at 316-303-8023 or visit openstreetsict.com/partners/volunteer
