Construction begins on new Hyatt Hotel at WSU

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday morning to begin construction on a new 106-room Hyatt Place Hotel that will be part of the Innovation Campus at Wichita State University.

The hotel is expected to be ready for occupancy in the summer of 2020.  It will have modern guest rooms and suites with fitness facilities, an indoor pool, meeting spaces and a restaurant and bar.   The hotel is expected to draw people into Wichita for campus visits and events, sports competitions and visitors to the companies located on the Innovation Campus.

Bobby Gandu, Wichita State’s director of admissions, says out-of-state enrollment has grown by 135 percent over the past six years, so providing a facility like Hyatt Place will be critical to the university and the services it provides.
