Evergy inviting youth for annual deer hunt

Evergy and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism are partnering for the annual youth deer hunt.

This year’s hunts are October 12 and 13 at the Wolf Creek Generating Station in Burlington, and December 4 to 15 at the Jeffrey Energy Center in St. Marys.

Hunts are open to kids 12 to 18-years-old and preference is given to those with little or no deer hunting experience. All required licenses and permits still apply.

Kids will have to be paired with an adult mentor to take part. All gear is provided, though hunters are encouraged to bring their own rifle if possible. Each kid and mentor will be paired with a hunting guide.

Safety meetings will be held before the hunts. These are October 5 at Black Bear Bosin in Burlington and
October 19 in St. Marys at the Jeffrey Energy Center. These days will give kids a chance to shoot the guns they’ll be using and get familiar with other gear they will have.

Applications to take part are due October 1. The application can be found below.
