Former Garden Plain water operator pleads guilty to falsifying reports

The former operator of the water system in Garden Plain has pleaded guilty to falsifying a report on the quality of the city’s drinking water.

The US Attorney’s Office says 64-year-old Arthur Wolfe of Norwich pleaded guilty Monday in federal court to one count of making a false statement in a report to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment that is required by the Environmental Protection Agency.  Wolfe admitted to using water samples taken at the water treatment plant and reporting them as samples taken at other locations, for a bacteriological report to the KDHE.

He faces a penalty of up to a year in federal prison and a fine up to $100,000.  Sentencing is scheduled for December 2.
