Norton Correctional Facility inmate dies

The Kansas Department of Corrections says an inmate housed at the Norton Correction Facility has died.

46-year-old Jeremy J. Palmer was taken by ambulance Monday to Norton County Hospital.  He was pronounced dead shortly after 12:30 p.m.

A cause of death hasn’t been determined.  An autopsy will be conducted.

Palmer was at the Norton facility serving a 97-month sentence for previous convictions in Barton, Ford and Thomas counties. He was convicted of possession of heroin and methamphetamine, with intent to distribute in Thomas County in 2013.  In 2016, he was convicted of distribution of opiates, fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer and interference of law enforcement in Barton and Ford counties.

Norton Correctional Facility houses male inmates who are considered low-medium and minimum-custody.   It has a population of 970 inmates.
