Westar Energy and Kansas City Power and Light are now officially under the new name of Evergy.

The companies completed a merger in June of 2018 but held off on a name change to allow for a smooth transition process.   The cost of updating the new name is being paid by shareholders and the company says it won’t affect customer prices.    Evergy president and CEO Terry Bassham said the merger has brought savings to customers through lower base rates and rebates.   He said the company will be working to provide customers with energy from renewable resources and to develop innovative programs to meet their needs.

Senior vice president Chuck Caisley said customers will see the name of Evergy in most places, but in other functions the transition will continue over the next several weeks. He said the website and bills will have the Evergy name, but it will take longer to update location signs, truck decals and employee work clothes.
