Woman who struck officer with stolen car captured

A woman who had been wanted since late March in an officer-involved shooting incident where a police officer was hit by a stolen car has been arrested.

It began back on March 16 around 9 p.m.  Wichita Police went to a home near 2nd and Seneca to check on a reported stolen vehicle.

When the arrived, they found a 24-year-old woman backing a stolen car into the driveway of a home and an 18-year-old man who was causing a disturbance standing outside of the home.  One officer went to speak with the man, while the other approached the car to talk to the driver.

As the officer approached, the woman put the car into drive, striking the officer, who ended up on the hood before sliding off.  The other officer was unable to see his partner and fired shots at the car, believing the other officer had just been run over by the driver.

The officer that was hit by the car was not seriously hurt.  The 18-year-old man was arrested at the scene on other charges.

The stolen car was later found in east Wichita, but the woman was still at large.

Around 3 a.m. Thursday, officers began a traffic stop on a stolen Chevrolet Sonic at Kellogg and Hillside.  The driver refused to stop and a chase began that ended just a few moments later, when the car broke down at Lincoln and I-135.

The 24-year-old woman who was wanted for the March incident was found in the car and taken into custody.  A 24-year-old man who was with her was also arrested for a parole violation and possession of drug paraphernalia.
