West Wichita homeowner shoots potential robbers

Wichita police say a homeowner shot two people who he believed were going to break into his home.

A 42-year-old man living in the 1400 block of North Caddy Court, near 13th and Maize, reports hearing his garage door open around 2 a.m. While going to check things out, he reported hearing people talk about targeting his home. Police say the homeowner saw a man and woman pull into his driveway with their headlights off and get out of their car. That’s when the homeowner fired two shots from a shotgun and hit both individuals. They left the area, along with people in a black truck.

The injured man and woman were found nearby after their car was crashed into a tree. Police described the woman’s injuries as not life-threatening. The man’s injuries are described as serious. Both people are identified as being 19-years-old. The car they were in had been reported stolen and police found two handguns inside.

Whoever was in the black truck left the area and has not been found.

Wichita police say their investigation is ongoing. It’s not clear how the homeowner’s garage door was opened or if he may have any connection to the suspects.
