Four hurt in crash following chase near Cheney

Law enforcement officers were chasing a pickup in the Cheney area Tuesday afternoon, and the chase ended with two crashes, one involving a law enforcement vehicle.

Kingman County officials reported a pickup that was stolen from Norwich.   A woman told officials that a man took his infant child into the truck and left, possibly going to Cheney.  A Cheney police officer saw the truck around 2:20 p.m. and a chase began.   The pickup was going through fields and then back onto a roadway, and during the chase a Cheney police officer hit a ditch, causing damage to his patrol car.  The officer had a minor injury to his shoulder and is now recovering at home.

The pickup went to the intersection of 359th Street West and 15th Street South, where it collided with an eastbound SUV.   The driver of the pickup was taken into custody and he was treated for minor injuries.   The infant was taken to a Wichita hospital with serious injuries.   The driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
