Wichita man sentenced to life for fatal 2018 shooting

A Wichita man has been sentenced to life in prison for a fatal shooting two years ago outside a nightclub.

38-year-old Brandon Evans was sentenced after a jury found him guilty in August, 2019 of first degree murder, aggravated battery and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.    Evans had claimed he suffered from a mental disease and he said the victim had threatened him and his family.   A judge rejected the claim and sentenced Evans to life with no parole eligibility for almost 66 years.

Evans was convicted in the June 10th, 2018 shooting death of 37-year-old Isaac Lewis.  A 28-year-old woman was shot in the arm during the incident outside Daiquiri’s Club at 7007 East Harry.    Evans was arrested after police saw him running from the club with a pistol in his hand.
