Wichita postpones youth football

The park and recreation department for the city of Wichita has announced it is postponing the youth football program for the fall.  There are tentative plans to have the program next spring.

The city is following Sedgwick County recommendations on playing football and close-contact sports, with a priority toward the safety of players, parents and staff.

The city’s park and recreation director, Troy Houtman, said in a press release that keeping participants safe is the number one priority, and “we look forward to when we can host our youth football players safely again.”

More details will be announced later on the spring season.

The park and recreation department has started online activities, workouts and eSports leagues in order to continue programs for the community during the coronavirus pandemic.
