  • Property value notices are going out, most Sedgwick County homes will be valued higher

The Sedgwick County Appraiser’s Office is mailing out over 166,000 annual property value notices this week, and most homeowners will be seeing a higher value for 2021.

Appraiser Mark Clark says a strong real estate market has fueled the increase, and 70 percent of residential properties in the county will be increasing by an average of six percent.  Another 19 percent of residential properties will see no change, and two percent will have a decrease averaging five percent.

Clark said 56 percent of commercial properties will have no change in value this year, while 29 percent will increase by an average of one percent, and 15 percent of commercial properties will decline by an average of two percent.

Anyone who doesn’t receive a value notice in the mail can go to the county’s web site at www.sedgwickcounty.org to find out the value on their home.

People who want to appeal the valuation of their property or want an explanation on how the value was determined can fill out the back of the value notice and return it within 30 days.   People who did not receive a notice can find a form on the county’s web site.

Clark said the appeal hearings will begin on March 16th and they will be conducted by telephone for the safety of residents and staff.
