A 2-alarm fire at a west Wichita apartment building resulted in an estimated $1.25 million in damages.
The Wichita Fire Department responded to the Silver Spring Apartments (999 North Silver Springs Blvd.) around 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.
The fire was reportedly caused by discarded smoking materials that later resulted in extensive water damage to all 16 units in the building, displacing all of the building’s residents.
Investigators say they had to ventilate smoke that had gathered in the attic, which took a couple of hours. Nobody in the building was injured.
The Red Cross provided shelter to displaced residents that needed assistance.
