Improvements are planned for a northeast Wichita sports complex to make it more attractive and competitive for regional sports tournaments and events.

The Stryker Multi-Sport Complex near K-96 and Greenwich Road was expanded in 2018 to provide 11 artificial turf fields, an indoor facility, lighting and an expansion of the stadium and bleachers.   The first public use of the fields began in March of 2019.

City Engineer Gary Janzen told City Council members that the facility has had trouble attracting large events because of a need for more locker rooms, showers and an expanded press box, along with safety netting.    He said the goal has been to attract regional high school and collegiate sports events for soccer, football, lacrosse, field hockey and other activities.

The City Council approved additional funding in June for the additional improvements, and they have now approved a design agreement to move ahead with construction. The project  will cost around $2.5 million.    The work is expected to be completed by the end of March, 2022.
