The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal self-inflicted shooting on I-135, near Harry.
A trooper stopped the driver of a truck with a trailer for speeding, around 8:20 a.m. The trooper was trying to make sure the numbers on the trailer matched up, and called another trooper to help out. When the troopers went to talk with the driver again, she reportedly pulled out a gun a shot herself. The troopers preformed live-saving measures on the woman, but she passed away at the scene.
Speaking at the scene, Trooper Chad Crittenden says it’s not clear why the woman reacted the way she did. She is identified as a woman in her 20’s, believed to be from Texas.
An investigation is ongoing and the Wichita Police Department is assisting.
