2nd Victim in Elk County Double Homicide Identified

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, and the Elk County Sheriff’s Office have identified the second man who was shot and killed outside a Longton, Kansas residence on Dec. 23.

57 year old Robert S. Stricker, of Longton, was identified as the second victim on Tuesday, Dec. 28.

The bodies of Stricker and 55-year old Dewayne L. Smith were found at a home. They were among five men at an outdoor gathering, and the suspect, 41-year-old Lyle Miller of Longton, pulled out a gun and fired shots.

Miller then fled to a nearby home, which was surrounded by officers.   Shortly before 6 a.m. a robot was sent into the home followed by tactical teams who discovered the Miller dead in the attic from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Elk County Sheriff’s Office are still investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
