Bel Aire man charged in fatal north Wichita stabbing

A Bel Aire man has been charged with first degree murder for a fatal New Year’s weekend stabbing in north Wichita.

27-year-old Bryce Johnston appeared in Sedgwick County District Court on Wednesday, and his bond was set at $500,000.  His next court appearance was scheduled for January 18th.

Police were called to a stabbing report late Sunday afternoon, and they found 44-year-old Jayson Stalkup with several stab wounds in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 2700 block of North Amidon.    Stalkup was pronounced dead at the scene, and investigators said the stabbing was the result of an argument.      Johnston was taken into custody after a traffic accident a couple of blocks from the stabbing scene.
