Snowpacked, icy road conditions caused a number of accidents across the Wichita area during the morning and afternoon rush periods Wednesday.
An unidentified man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries after a crash Wednesday afternoon on the Kansas Turnpike near Mulvane. The crash involved a semi and a pickup, and traffic was blocked for a few hours on the turnpike near the Sumner County line.
There were a number of crashes on K-96 between I-135 and Webb Road in northeast Wichita. A crash on westbound K-96 at Rock Road had traffic backed up late in the day.
Other crashes were reported on K-15 near 47th Street South, I-235 near West Street, and westbound K-96 at Oliver.
Drivers were urged to be extra careful going into the overnight and early morning hours, with snowpacked conditions, icy bridges and blowing snow.
