Police arrest two in fatal Wichita assault

Two men have been arrested for the beating death of a man in west Wichita.

Police were called around 7 p.m. Tuesday to the 600 block of North Seneca, when 911 received a report of a man being beaten on the Seneca Street Bridge.   Officers found 30-year-old Blake Barnes, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition.   He died a short time later.

Police talked to a witness who led them to a 63-year-old man, who was reported to have struck Barnes several times with a metal pipe.   The man was arrested and officers tracked down another suspect, a 31-year-old man, who left the area on a bicycle.  He was found in the 400 block of North Seneca.

Police said the two suspects were booked on second degree murder charges.   The suspects and the victim were known to be homeless.
