The Wichita Police Department is once again inviting residents to its “Beat the Heat” event.

The event was created to cut down on illegal street racing by inviting residents to race their friends in a safe, controlled environment.

The “Beat the Heat” was created last year through a partnership with Mel Hambleton Ford. More than 5,000 people showed up in 2021 and this year, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will participate.

The event will take place at the Kansas International Dragway on Friday, June 10th. Doors open at 6 p.m. The entry fee is $20 for each racer, and you will need to sign a waiver. If you want to go watch, the price is $8 per person. Kids 12 and under are free.
