Hutchinson Public Schools announced a pay increase for bus drivers contracted through Durham School Services.
Board members approved the pay increase at the August 9th meeting of the Hutchinson Public Schools Board of Education.
In the addendum to their current contract for student bus transportation with Durham School Services, Hutchinson Public Schools administration asked for a 6.1% pay increase, instead of the current 3%. The additional 3.1% will allow Durham to stay competitive in recruiting drivers, monitors, mechanics and administrative staff as well as provide a retention bonus for drivers and monitors.
The net overall cost for the increase is approximately $20,323 for 2022-2023. Both district administrators and board members supported the increase, as the increase would lead to the recruitment and retainment of staff.
