A Kansas woman has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for leading a female Islamic State battalion while living in Syria.

Allison Fluke-Ekren admitted to leading the Khatiba Nusaybah, which was made up of around 100 women, some of whom were girls as young as 10 years old. They were trained to use automatic weapons, explosives and suicide belts.

One of Fluke-Ekren’s daughters said she received such training. Additionally, both she and her eldest brother alleged being physically and sexually abused by their mother–accusations that Fluke-Ekren denied.

Fluke-Ekren’s two children also urged the presiding judge to impose the maximum sentence on their mother.
