Kanas Department of Transportation Secretary Julie Lorenz has announced her resignation. She has served in the office since March, 2019.
Lorenz has decided to return to the private sector, and her last day with KDOT will be Friday, December 23rd. Engineering and Design Director Calvin Reed has been named as Interim Secretary until a new Secretary is nominated and confirmed. KDOT Deputy Secretary Burt Morey has announced his retirement after a 30-year career.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly said Lorenz has been “visionary” in seeing infrastructure as a way to bring people together for the betterment of future generations. She said Lorenz’s efforts have been successful in passing a bipartisan ten-year infrastructure program and coordinating billions of dollars in funding.
Lorenz also served as Chair of the Kansas Infrastructure Hub, which coordinates federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. In that role she oversaw the creation of the Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program. KDOT has over 1,000 infrastructure projects in the works across the state.
