Sedgwick County will buy a half-acre property in south Wichita to allow for continued operation and expansion of an EMS post.
The county has been leasing property from Ascension Via Christi at 1100 South Clifton, near the Via Christi St. Joseph hospital. That is the location for EMS Post 4. There is now an opportunity to buy the property, which would allow the county to improve and expand the facility.
County commissioners have approved a total of $55,000 in capital funds to cover the $45,000 purchase plus other costs. Commissioner David Dennis said the price is right and the location is right, and EMS agrees with the purchase, so it’s the right decision to move forward with the purchase. Commissioner Jim Howell said this EMS post is one of several that are in dire need of improvements, and he wants to look at a project to improve the facility.
EMS Post 4 has one bay for an ambulance and the county is looking to construct a multi-bay facility in the future with office space for several crews. There has been increasing demand for EMS service in the area.
