A former Sedgwick County detention deputy will be sentenced in March after pleading guilty to charges of official misconduct and unlawful sexual relations with inmates.

22-year-old Dustin Burnett of Maize was arrested and charged in July, 2022 after deputies found a number of contraband items in jail and learned that there were plans to smuggle a gun, cell phones, marijuana and other items into the pod where Burnett worked.    Sheriff Jeff Easter said Burnett saw inmates cutting a hole in a jail window to bring in items, but did nothing to stop it.   Easter said the plot put deputies, jail staff and other inmates at risk.

After the arrest, two female inmates accused Burnett of inappropriate sexual contact.

Burnett pleaded guilty to two counts of official misconduct and three counts of unlawful sexual relations.  He will be sentenced on March 30th.
