Kansas Governor Laura Kelly has announced that a company will invest $1.9 billion to build a computer chip manufacturing facility in Burlington, in Coffey County.

EMP Shield works to protect electronic devices from destructive magnetic pulses.  The company will build a facility on a 300-acre site at the Silicon Prairie Industrial Park.  The facility will create more than 1,200 jobs, averaging $66,000 in annual salary.   The company will also work with six out-of-state suppliers, resulting in an additional 1,000 jobs for Coffey County.

The company plans to have four production lines operating to produce thousands of computer chips per week.   It will use state support to apply for federal CHIPS Act funding for the construction of the facility.
