The University of Kansas men’s basketball team ended its run in the NCAA men ‘s basketball tournament on Saturday with a 72-71 upset loss against Arkansas.
Arkansas’ Ricky Council IV made five free throws in the final seconds of the game to seal the win for the 8th seeded Razorbacks against the number one seeded Jayhawks.
Kansas was the second number-one-seeded team to be ousted from the tournament. Purdue was defeated Friday night by 16th seed Fairleigh Dickinson.
KU officials said before the game that head basketball coach Bill Self would miss Saturday’s game, and Assistant Coach Norm Roberts again took over as acting head coach.
Self has been recovering after receiving a heart procedure earlier this month. On March 8th, he was taken to the emergency room after complaining of chest pains. Since the procedure, Self had been at meetings and practices since the team arrived in Des Moines.
