A 44-year-old woman is dead after an early morning shooting incident in a northwest Wichita neighborhood, and her husband died a short time later.

The shooting was reported around 5 a.m. Sunday in the 2700 block of North Parkridge.  That is southwest of the intersection of 119th Street West and 29th Street North.

A man called 911 and said he may have killed his wife after an argument.  Police found the woman dead from a gunshot wound, and they arrested the 47-year-old man but he suddenly became unresponsive.   Medical aid was provided, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the incident appears to be the result of domestic violence, but Wichita police chief Joe Sullivan has asked the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to look into the circumstances of the man’s death.
