The Cowley County Sheriff’s Office said a body found in a pond east of Winfield has been tentatively identified as a woman who had been missing since Saturday.
Deputies said 69-year-old Janet Spoon was reported missing Saturday after her vehicle was found in a field in the 17,000 block of 121st Road. She had been with friends the previous night and was last seen walking away from her disabled vehicle. Searches were conducted over the weekend but Spoon was not found.
Deputies were called Monday to a pond behind a landscaping business west of the intersection of Highway 160 and 121st Road. A body was found in the pond and a preliminary identification was made pending an autopsy. The Sheriff’s Office said this is still an active investigation.
