A second reporter from the Marion County Record newspaper has filed a federal lawsuit against a former police chief and other officials over a raid on the newspaper offices last year.

The lawsuit from Phyllis Zorn claims her constitutional rights were violated in the August 11th raid, and the suit is asking for $950,000 in damages.

The lawsuit names former Marion police chief Gideon Cody, interim police chief Zach Hudlin, the City of Marion, Marion County Sheriff Jeff Hoyez, sheriff’s detective Aaron Christner, the Marion County Commission and Marion Mayor David Mayfield.

Former Record reporter Deb Gruver has also filed a lawsuit in connection with the raid.

The police raid got world and national attention and concerns from press freedom groups, and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation has been looking into the case.
