Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is asking the Federal Emergency Management Agency for more time to submit a disaster request for a major winter storm that hit the state in January.

The storm moved through Kansas from January 7th through the 16th, bringing heavy snow, high winds and extreme wind chills.

The governor made the request to allow more time for preliminary damage assessments and validate all legitimate expenses.  She’s asking FEMA for an extension through April 15th to submit a request for federal assistance through the Public Assistance program.   The program provides funding on a cost-share basis to repair damaged public infrastructure, such as roads and bridges.
