Liberal, Kansas was the winner of the annual International Pancake Day race with Olney, England.

This is the 75th Diamond Anniversary of the Pancake Day celebration.   Liberal was led by 19-year-old Pamela Bolivar who was the top overall finisher with a time of 63:03 seconds.   That was a third of a second faster than Olney’s top finisher, Kaisa Larkas, who finished in 63.37 seconds.

The race has been a long-standing tradition since 1950, and the origins date back to 1445 in England.   The women of Liberal and Olney will run to the finish line carrying skillets with pancakes inside.   Olney won last year’s race.

Tuesday’s schedule in Liberal includes a Guinness World Record attempt for the highest pancake toss at 8:15 a.m.  The races will be held at 10:15 a.m. and a Pancake Day Parade will be held at 3 p.m.
