The sheriff in Thomas County, Kansas said there are no plans for the federal government to buy property for use as housing for immigrants or any other persons.

The Sheriff’s Office in Colby issued a statement to dispel rumors in the community:

The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office was informed by an agent with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) there is no current or future plan for any government agency to purchase any properties in Thomas County to house immigrants or any other persons.  There are no plans to house any immigrants or any other persons in Thomas County at any privately-owned establishments.   The agent advised they understand the City of Colby and Thomas County do not have the resources to take on this responsibility.

The Sheriff’s Office hopes that this will dispel some of the rumors which have been going around the area about a government agency purchasing a motel to house people in Thomas County.
