Second man charged in northwest Wichita chase

A Newton man has appeared in court on a number of charges related to a chase with police in northwest Wichita on September 10th.

26-year-old James Stanford is accused of driving a stolen Jeep toward officers who were trying to stop him at a McDonald’s restaurant at 21st and Amidon.  Officers fired shots and the Jeep, and it sped to the north, eventually crashing into a tree near 29th Street North and Meridian.   Stanford was arrested later in the day and treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg.

Stanford is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery, theft and other charges relating to the chase.  His next court appearance is scheduled for October 3rd, and he is being held on a bond of $100,.000.

Another man, 30-year-old Zachary Ausdemore, has been charged in connection with the chase.  He is accused of carjacking another vehicle after the Jeep crashed,  and then leading officers on a chase into southwest Wichita.   Ausdemore was treated for an arm injury he received when officers fired shots at the stolen Jeep.
