Downtown Wichita fire ruled arson

Firefighters were called to an early morning building fire in downtown Wichita.

Fires and broken widows were found on the ground floor of the Petroleum Building, at 219 South Broadway. Crews were first called to the building around 4 a.m. Wednesday and quickly got the fires put out. It’s not clear yet if the broken windows were from the fire or from someone breaking into the building.

Fire investigators believe this was a case of arson, with damage estimated at $40,000. It’s not known if this was tied to protests across Wichita that started Tuesday night and ran into Wednesday morning.
