Entrance fees at all Kansas state parks are being waived on November 26 as part of a national #OptOutside initiative.
If you visit a state park on the 26th, you could also win a free night’s stay at any Kansas state park cabin. To enter the contest, you’ll need to take a selfie while visiting a state park and share it on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram. The photos will need to be tagged with #OptOutside and #MyKsStatePark.
The OptOutside tradition started after REI closed all its stores for a day in 2015 and paid employees to spend the day outside. This has since become an annual event involving REI and parks across the country.
“We couldn’t be more excited to once again offer free entrance to Kansas’ state parks on Black Friday,” said Linda Lanterman, director of Kansas State Parks. “Being outside in nature does wonders for our physical and mental health, so I hope everyone opts to go outside this year and enjoy a Kansas state park as part of their holiday experience.”
