Machinists Union leaders have announced a tentative agreement for 6,000 workers at Spirit Aerosystems in Wichita. The agreement was announced on the fourth day of a strike that was called after union members rejected a previous offer.
A statement was issued by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers on behalf of District 70 and Local 839. The statement said an “industry-leading agreement” had been reached and it has the support of the Local 839 bargaining committee.
The union has scheduled a vote for Thursday, June 29th on the new contract.
The proposal calls for no changes to the Core and Enhanced health insurance plans. It has guaranteed annual wage increases of six percent in the first year, along with a three-and-a-half-percent cost-of-living increase. The second and third years of the contract would have a wage increase of four percent, and the fourth year would have an increase of six percent. The contract also calls for no mandatory overtime on weekends.
